About Quetta
Quetta is located on the border of Pakistan and Iran. It is a city that is known as the commercial centre of Pakistan’s provincial capital of Balochistan province (Alim 3). The city was born into the civilization in 1335, an agricultural and economic center (Shah 1). The city of Quetta was a major center of trade between North and South Asia till the 16th century (Nisa 637). During that period, Quetta was the center of it all. The city’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is 42.9 billion kw, mainly through fishing, agricultural and marine activities (Centre for Social Development 2).
Why many are fascinated by the city of Quetta?
The city has several religious and cultural significance to Muslims and Christians (Bryson 5). It was the birth place of Hazara, the second most respected tribe in the Islamic world. Although, Hazara community migrated out of the country during the British rule, when the British colony of Iraq occupied Northern Iraq (Handrick 11). However, in the current time, Hazara population is 5.7% of the total population of the country. Although, the fast urbanization is aggravating and causing hardships to Hazara community, they are proud to produce a noble person like General Musharraf. It is also evident that the city has been immortalized in Pakistan’s Independence Day (Widwar 34).
Religion play an important role in the life of people in Quetta. Many local religious leaders are high-ranking religious scholars and Peshawari Seerah (Purita), the adviser of the High Council of the Society of Holy Faith of the Hazara community is extremely influential in the region (“Dia Quetta” page). The influential of native religion is visible even among Punjab’s Muslims as well as in the prevalent commercial activities.
Decentralization of development process is apparent from the fact that majority of the population are low-paid manual laborer under the control of feudal society (Atam alaal 5). Moreover, those living in remote areas experience difficulties due to pollution, scarcity of labor, difficulties in getting education. It was observed that the total population of Balochistan province in 2014 was 36.15 million (“Lionry 7”). In 2013, the population of Balochistan was 36.45 million (Lionry 7).
On the other hand, there are some achievements. Balochistan is the first province in Pakistan, which has achieved 27 consecutive years of uninterrupted uninterrupted development and growth in the last 58 years (Widwar 66).Moreover, agriculture and forestation are essential for the GDP (HR Development 1). Although, much underdevelopment is also noticeable.
Current problems
People of Balochistan are optimistic of economic development in the near future, because of the vast natural resources, which include mineral deposits, oil, gas, water reserves, coal, marble, granite, and diamonds (HR Development 1). However, these resources are threatened by militant activities. As well as the prevalent powerlessness, human and economic problems loom over Balochistan population. Local people believe that the bullet on condition of an enforced legal action is more necessary than the bomb which is plant in a bad-case condition (Widwar 66).
Conclusion
In conclusion, Quetta climate magazine is the best source of information regarding environmental and social issues in the province of Balochistan. The government of Balochistan needs to provide comprehensive policies that will focus on environmental protection and healthy living. People have to use public transport for easy travel. The proper sanitation of water will lead to reduction of diseases and longevity (Handrick 12). It is a healthy decision to live in the city of Quetta, because the city is considered as the most beautiful among cities in Pakistan. Local people need to work together in keeping their city clean, though there are many ways to create clean water by the use of modern machinery (Handrick 19).
